PURPOSE: To improve contrast ratio by shielding light which is not modulated by an orientation control window and prevent an effect of the orientation control window from losing by being driven a liquid crystal by the electric field of a light shielding film. CONSTITUTION: A light shielding film 11a is formed in a substrate side opposed to a substrate in which an orientation control window 24 is formed, in a region opposed to the orientation control window 24 in which a liquid crystal is fixed in the initial orientation state so as to stabilize orientation of the whole cell. The light shielding film 11a is thus induced by the electric field in the cell, acts in the orientation control window 24 range as if an electrode exists, and orientation of the liquid crystal is fixed in the initial state because of nonexistence of the electrode so that such an effect of the orientation control window 24 as stabilizing the whole orientation is prevented from losing. |
