PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital watermark embedding apparatus and a corresponding digital watermark detector which enable an embedding system to be selected according to the instruction of a user or an arbitrary status corresponding to a plurality of digital watermark systems. SOLUTION: The digital watermark embedding apparatus is provided with an information embedding part 25 corresponding to a plurality of digital watermark embedding systems and a digital watermark embedding system switching part 24 for switching the digital watermark embedding system of the information embedding part 25 and embeds a digital watermark with a system selected out of the plurality of systems according to the arbitrary status. Besides, the digital watermark detector is provided with a plurality of digital watermark detecting systems, detects the digital watermark from a file with the digital watermark embedded therein, by the designated digital watermark system and can detect tampering.
