PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber grating that has no need to keep applying a tension load at the time of use while having the ability to control a Bragg wavelength. SOLUTION: This apparatus 20 for manufacturing a fiber grating is equipped with a traction unit 3 that applies a tension load to both ends of an optical fiber 1 having a grating 2 and a heat source 4 that heats the grating of the optical fiber to which the tension load is applied by the traction unit 3. Meantime, the method for manufacturing the fiber grating is such that, while the tension load is applied to both ends of the optical fiber having the grating, the optical fiber is heated to the temperature causing permanent deformation to obtain the grating fiber with the period of the grating changed.
