<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure housed in a metal container in a condition of being stably clamped, and preventing nonconformities such as failure and breakdown, and to provide a canning structure housing the honeycomb structure in the metal container and having excellent resistance to vibration especially under a high temperature condition. <P>SOLUTION: This honeycomb structure is a cylinder which has many distribution holes divided by partitions and penetrating in an axial direction, and consists of silicon carbide (SiC) or a composite material containing silicon carbide (SiC) as the main crystal phase.
