PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of yielding excellent images even when a lens system is made lighter in weight and more compact in size. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus 10 comprises: a lens system 12 for fetching an object as an image; a half prism 14 for separating light passing through the lens system 12 in two directions; a first image pickup part 16 and a second image pickup part 18 respectively arranged at positions where the optical path length from the half prism 14 is different from each other for respectively picking up the images by respective light beams separated at the half prism 14; and a synthetic image formation part 20 for forming synthetic images on the basis of the respective images picked up by the image pickup parts. By making the synthetic image formation part 20 take out and synthesize the focused excellent parts of the images picked up by the first image pickup part 16 and the second image pickup part 18, the excellent images are obtained. Thus, even when the structure of the lens system 12 is simplified, thinned and made light in weight, the excellent images with less image quality degradation at a circumferential edge part are formed.
