PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus capable of isolating harmful organic substances such as dioxins from a sample in a short period of time, simply, and efficiently. SOLUTION: The apparatus continuously generates water vapor from a generating unit 1, generates overheated water vapor by overheating the generated water vapor by an overheating unit 2, and controls the temperature of the overheated water vapor by a controlling unit 3. The overheated water vapor is continuously supplied to an extracting unit 5, where the overheated water vapor is brought into contact with a nongaseous sample, extracting harmful organic substances in the sample by co-distillation. The distillate from the extracting unit 5 is cooled by a cooling unit 6, and is subjected to an absorption process by an absorbent such as activated carbon and ceramic-based absorbents in an absorbing unit 7, concentrating the harmful organic substances. The temperature of the overheated water vapor ranges from 110 to 350°C. Using overheated water vapor can extract harmful organic substances at a lower temperature than the boiling point thereof efficiently. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
