PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aromatic polycarbonate having excellent color tone and high transparency, without using dichloromethane which is difficult to use due to environmental issues. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate, a halogenated carbonyl compound is reacted with an aromatic dihydroxy compound containing 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and 1,1'-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)- m-diisopropyl benzene, and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base, wherein into a two-phase mixed solution comprising (1) an aqueous phase containing the aromatic dihydroxy compound and the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base and (2) an organic phase containing a halogenated benzene, the halogenated carbonyl compound, a molecular weight modifier and a polymerization catalyst are supplied to perform a polymerization reaction.
