UPPER PUMPING TYPE OPTICAL DEVICE

PURPOSE: An upper pumping type optical device is provided to improve the pumping efficiency by transmitting a pumping light to a gain medium structure through an elliptical reflector. CONSTITUTION: A lower cladding layer(110) is formed on a substrate(100). A gain medium structure is formed on the lower cladding layer(110) to be excited by absorption of a pumping light. A light source(150) is provided on an upper portion of the gain medium structure and sends light for pumping the gain medium structure at an upper portion thereof. An optical pipe(140) has a light incidence surface at a part corresponding to the light source(150) and a light irradiation surface at a part corresponding to the gain medium structure. The optical pipe(140) is an induction path for transmitting the light from the light source(150) to the gain medium structure.
