PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for generating overspeed information are provided to control effectively the overspeed of a vehicle by utilizing a terminal of the vehicle to generate the overspeed information and transmit the overspeed information to a central control center. CONSTITUTION: The GPS(Global Positioning System) information including the speed information is received from a GPS terminal(501). The predetermined speed limit is extracted from the GPS information(503). The speed information is compared with the predetermined speed limit in order to decide the overspeed(505). The overspeed information is generated by using the speed information and a vehicle identifier if the overspeed is decided(507). The generated overspeed information is transmitted to a central control center(509).
