<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly judge the focal level of the peripheral image of the eye without using any expensive optical system. <P>SOLUTION: This device comprises an image pickup means 20 for imaging the eye, a filter 31 for extracting prescribed frequency components from the imaged eye picture, an integrating means 32 for integrating the prescribed frequency components obtained through the filter 31 in one screen, a focal level deciding part 33 for comparing the frequency component integral value obtained by the integrating means 32 with a preliminarily set focal threshold, a pupil center judging part 36 for deciding the central part of a pupil from the imaged eye picture, and an iris processing part 40 for extracting, registering, and authenticating iris information from the imaged eye image. In this case, a frame in a prescribed range from the center of the eye is defined as an eye area, and a frequency component integral value in the eye area is compared with the focal threshold so that the focal level of the eye picture can be easily and quickly judged, and the eye picture suitable for the iris authentication can be obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
