PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a commutation breaker, in which the electrical resistance for electric current flowing through a main circuit is made small in a closed circuit condition, thereby a comparatively large electric current can be suitably charged, and a cooperative working of the breaker and a disconnecting switch can be performed accurately in switching operations. SOLUTION: In a commutation breaker having a breaker 1 inserted in a main circuit 3 connecting a power supply to a load, there are provided a capacitor 5 connected to the main circuit 3 in a condition with the capacitor being connected electrically in parallel with the breaker 1, a reactor 6, and a commutation circuit 4 comprising a commutation switch 7, a disconnecting switch 2 is connected between the commutation circuit 4 and the main circuit 3, and a controller 12 that interlocks the breaker 1 with the disconnecting switch 2, at a predetermined timing when the electric current is switched in the main circuit 3.
