PURPOSE: A remote control system based on a network and a method therefor are provided to install a device for controlling offline devices, and to connect the installed device with a network, then to control the offline devices from a remote place through the network, thereby efficiently managing the offline devices at any places. CONSTITUTION: An information provider(230) outputs at least more than one registered home appliance list to a user connected to a private network. A command receiver(240) receives a selected specific home appliance existing on the home appliance lists, and receives a control command. A state perceiver(250) confirms position information of the selected home appliance, and outputs the control command for the selected home appliance with state information. A remote controller(260) outputs a control code corresponding to the received control command, and controls the specific home appliance. An approval unit(210) determines whether to approve the connection of the user. If the connection is approved, a controller(220) controls to output the home appliance lists.
