PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for detecting external force of a structure body which is easily performed and can detect damaged points, etc., of the structure body. SOLUTION: The detecting apparatus is provided with: a first vessel 11 of flexible material in which a first liquid 13 is sealed up; and a second vessel 12 of fragile material which is housed in the first vessel 11 and in which a second liquid 14 that generates chemical emission when reacts with the first liquid 13 is sealed up. It is also provided with: light-emitting body 1 disposed at an external force detecting point in a pile; an optical fiber 22 whose one end is inserted into the first liquid 13; and an optical detector which is fitted to the other end of the optical fiber 22.
