摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable fluorescent material for vacuum ultraviolet excitation showing highly bright blue luminescence in vacuum ultraviolet excitation and having good life characteristics, and a luminous element equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The fluorescent material is represented by the compositional formula: (Ba<SB>1-x-y</SB>, M<SB>x</SB>, Eu<SB>y</SB>)<SB>2-z</SB>M<SB>gz</SB>Si<SB>n</SB>O<SB>2n+2</SB>(wherein M is at least one of calcium and strontium, x is 0≤x≤0.2, y is 0<y<0.2, z is 0.8≤z≤1.2 and n is 2.4≤n≤4.0) and activated by divalent europium.
