OPTICAL DEVICE OF UPPER PUMPING MANNER

PURPOSE: An optical device of an upper pumping manner is provided to improve the pumping efficiency by inputting a pumping light to a gain medium region located on a lower portion. CONSTITUTION: A lower cladding layer(110) is formed on a substrate(100). A gain medium structure is formed on the lower cladding layer(110) excited by an absorption of a pumping light. A light source(150) is provided on an upper portion of the gain medium structure and pumps the gain medium structure located at an upper portion thereof. A region included in a beam spot of the light source(150) in the gain medium structure has a volume broader than the others. An upper cladding layer is formed on the gain medium structure made of a material for transmitting the light from the light source(150).
