PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abnormal phenomena such as misfire caused by reduction of remaining fuel volume (air suction of a fuel pump) from being misjudged as malfunction of a system. SOLUTION: Existence of malfunction of an ignition system is judged according to whether a misfire detecting number cmf in a predetermined period is larger than an abnormality judging value or not. At that time, when the remaining fuel volume in a fuel tank is small, it is judged that misfire could be easily caused due to air suction of the fuel pump, Then, the abnormality judging value to the misfire detecting number cmf is switched to an abnormality judging value refmf3 when the remaining fuel volume is reduced that is larger than an abnormality judging value refmf2 at a normal time. Therefore, even if misfire is easily caused because of reduction of the remaining fuel volume (air suction of the fuel pump), the misfire detecting number cmf does not exceed the abnormality judging value refmf3 when the remaining fuel volume is reduced, so as to prevent the misfire caused by reduction of the remaining fuel volume from being misjudged as malfunction of the ignition system in advance.
