LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY FOR IMPROVING DYNAMIC CONTRAST AND METHOD OF GENERATING GAMMA VOLTAGE FOR THE SAME

PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display for improving dynamic contrast and a method of generating gamma voltage for the liquid crystal display are provided to adjust gamma voltage according to luminance and display images based on the adjusted gamma voltage. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal display panel(10) having a plurality of pixels formed at intersections of gate lines and data lines, a gate driver(20) for applying a voltage signal for sequentially scanning the gate lines, and a source driver(30) for applying a voltage signal for displaying an image to the data lines. The liquid crystal display further includes a timing controller(40) for providing image display data and a control signal to the source driver, supplying a signal for controlling gate line ON/OFF to the gate driver, and transmitting predetermined digital gamma data to the source driver, and a digital/analog converter(50) for converting the digital gamma data into an analog signal to generate a plurality of gamma voltages and delivering the gamma voltages to the source driver. The timing controller transmits the digital gamma data during a blank period during which effective data is not transmitted.
