PURPOSE: A monochrome cathode ray tube and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to prevent a browning phenomenon and lengthen the lifespan of the cathode ray tube, while reducing manufacturing procedures. CONSTITUTION: A monochrome cathode ray tube comprises a panel(10), a funnel(20) and a neck(22) which are formed integrally with each other so as to constitute a vacuum container(1); an electron gun(30) mounted in the neck; a phosphor screen(12) formed at the inner surface of the panel; and an X-ray cutoff film(40) formed on the phosphor screen, and which prevents an X-ray from being transmitted to the phosphor screen. A method for manufacturing a monochrome cathode ray tube comprises the steps of mounting a getter material and an X-ray cutoff material in a container of a getter(50); forming a vacuum container by assembling a panel, a funnel and a neck; mounting an electron gun equipped with the getter in the neck; performing a vacuum evacuation for the vacuum container; and performing a getter flashing process.
