<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a time division and wavelength division multiplexing optical switching node. <P>SOLUTION: This time division and wavelength division multiplexing optical switching node for an optical communication network 2 can combine an assembly of time division multiplexed packets 8-1, 8-2,...8-i with a wavelength division multiplexed packet 18 in order to form a composite wavelength division multiplexed packet by particularly giving fitting multiplexed wavelengths λ1, λ2,...λi to the individual time division multiplexed packets 8-1, 8-2,...8-i, respectively, for example, giving a wavelength to each of the time division multiplexed packets.
