PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base station apparatus capable of effectively implementing cell searching while minimizing reduction in a capacity of a mobile communication system and to provide a terminal, and a communication method. SOLUTION: The base station apparatus discriminates a terminal with high necessity of searching of other channel and a terminal with low necessity of searching of other channel and changes a compressed mode pattern on the basis of the result of discrimination so as to minimize a frequency of non- transmission period as a whole mobile communication system thereby minimizing the reduction in the system capacity in the compressed mode.
