PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method for taking out high-purity 1-acetylindoline-2- sulfonic acid alkali metal salts in high yield from reaction solution by carrying out a reaction in good yield without loosing fluidity of the reaction solution during synthesis of 1-acethylindoline-2-sulfonic acid alkali metal salts by heating indoline-2-sulfonic acid alkali metal salts in acetic acid anhydride under stirring to acetylate. SOLUTION: The indoline-2-sulfonic acid alkali metal salts react with acetic acid anhydride in the presence of an anionic surfactant to acetylate in high yield and further, a ketone solvent is added to the reaction mixture after finishing the reaction. As a result, the high-purity acetyl indoline-2-sulfonic acid alkali metal salts is taken out in high yield from the reaction solution. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
