PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst component for olefin polymerization which has a high polymerization activity; can produce a polyolefin having a broader molecular weight distribution, and controls the formation of an amorphous polymer by-produced, a catalyst for olefin polymerization, a method for producing the olefin polymer, and an electron-donating compound which is used in preparing the catalyst component for olefin polymerization. SOLUTION: The electron-donating compound for preparing a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is composed of a polymer having a polar group. The solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization comprises a magnesium atom, a group 4-6 transition metal atom in the periodic table, a halogen atom, and the electron-donating compound for preparing the solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization. The catalyst for olefin polymerization is obtained by bringing the above solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization into contact with an organoaluminum compound. The method for producing the olefin polymer comprises polymerizing an olefin in the presence of the above catalyst for olefin polymerization. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
