PURPOSE: A method for processing an image of a fingerprint is provided to acquire a fingerprint according to shapes of a human, calculate a direction value of a ridge on the acquired fingerprint, and convert the calculated direction value into a luminosity value. CONSTITUTION: An image signal is acquired through a fingerprint acquisition device(S10). When the image signal is acquired, the image signal is received in an image processing unit, converted into a fingerprint, and a direction value of a ridge is calculated in the converted fingerprint(S20). The image processing unit converts each calculated direction value into a luminosity value(S30). The image processing unit calculates a mid-point of a luminosity(S41). The image processing unit selects a plurality of mid-points(S42). The image processing unit checks whether the mid-points are selected correctly(S43). The image processing unit calculates distances among the mid-points(S44). When the mid-point is decided, the image processing unit classifies the fingerprint in accordance with a direction of the ridge(S50).
