PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an unevenness in projected image difficult to occur even when a light source section is exchanged. SOLUTION: The reference correction data for correcting the luminance unevenness of the projected image based on the reference light source section is stored in a rewritable LUT memory 9 and the correction data based on the light source section 1k mounted on a liquid crystal projector 100 is superposed on the reference correction data to rewrite the contents of the LUT memory 9 to the superposed correction data. An image signal is corrected by this correction data and the driving of a light valve 2 is performed in accordance with the corrected image signal. As a result, the image signal can be corrected by taking the characteristics of the light source section 1k into consideration and therefore, an unevenness in projected image hardly occurs even when the light source section 1 is exchanged.
