PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk drive which can be made thin and small-sized. SOLUTION: The disk drive is constituted by composing the chassis exterior of a base body and a lid body, forming a disk insertion slot for directly inserting a disk on the front surface of the chassis exterior, providing the base body with a traverse and a printed board, providing connectors on the rear surface of the chassis exterior, and holding a spindle motor, a pickup, and a driving means moving the pickup by the traverse; and the traverse is arranged on the disk insertion slot side and the printed board is arranged on a connector side. The spindle motor is positioned at the center part of the base body and the traverse is so arranged that the reciprocation range of the pickup is closer to the disk insertion slot side than to the spindle motor and the reciprocation direction of the pickup is different from the insertion direction of the disk; and the traverse is placed in operation to make the spindle motor approach the base body side or lid body side.
