PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold release agent and lubricant which do not use a chlorine-containing fluorocarbon, and are environment-friendly and excellent. SOLUTION: A composition which can be used, for example, as a casting mold release agent or a lubricant comprises a repeating unit derived from a fluoroalkene and, optionally, a comonomer and, additionally, a fluoroalkene having a terminal derived from a secondary alcohol or its derivative. Further, a method which can be used in producing a fluorotelomer comprises a step of bringing at least one of a secondary alcohol, its ether, its ester, and a combination of at least two of them into contact with a fluoroalkene in a hydrofluorocarbon, and the above secondary alcohol, and the like are substantially soluble in the hydrofluorocarbon.
