PURPOSE: A method for authenticating a fingerprint is provided to authenticate a fingerprint and increase an authenticating speed by acquiring the fingerprint according to shapes of a finger using a fingerprint recognition device, imaging a direction of a ridge of the acquired fingerprint, and calculating a mid-point. CONSTITUTION: An image signal according to shapes of fingerprints is received in an image processing unit through a fingerprint acquisition device. A fingerprint is acquired(S10). The image processing unit calculates a direction value of a ridge of the acquired fingerprint, and converts the calculated direction value into an imaging value(S12). The image processing unit calculates a mid-point of the fingerprint using the calculated image(S13). A control unit overlaps the mid-point of the fingerprint with a mid-point of the fingerprint stored in a DB(S14). When the two mid-points are overlapped, the control unit checks whether the two mid-points are accorded interactively for authenticating the fingerprint(S15).
