The cooler consists of a bundle of tubes (1) with their ends fixed to a common plate, where they have rounded inlet edges having two different radii of curvature, between 0.47 and 0.87 of the tubes' inner diameter, and meeting the inner surfaces of the tubes at a tangent. At least one injector (14) linked to a source of compressed air (15) is located adjacent to the front surface of the plate, producing a flat jet that covers at least part of the plate's surface. There is preferably a number of injectors at different points covering the whole of the plate with air jets at a tangent to its front face.
