PURPOSE: A square-shaped chip resistor and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to allow for ease of assembly and reduce the assembly time by permitting the top, bottom and side surface of the resistor to be inserted to the circuit board. CONSTITUTION: A square-shaped chip resistor(100) comprises a substrate(110) made of a ceramic material, and which has a width(D) same as the thickness(T) of the substrate; an upper conductor(121) and a lower conductor printed on the top and bottom surfaces of the substrate, respectively; a connection conductor(128) formed at the side surface of the substrate, and which interconnects the upper conductor and the lower conductor; a resistor(130) printed on the upper conductor or the lower conductor; and a glass(140) deposited on the resistor, upper or lower conductor and the side surface of the substrate.
