<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face image recognizing device and method whose robustness is improved by identifying a face image by applying deformation under the consideration of the fact that the face is three-dimensionally shaped to a preliminarily registered front face image. <P>SOLUTION: A viewpoint photographic face image photographed following a viewpoint (the direction of a camera against a person) is inputted, and a wire frame is allocated to the preliminarily registered front face image of the person to be recognized, and a deformation parameter corresponding to the viewpoint is applied to the front face image to which the wire frame is allocated so that the front face image can be changed to a face image presumed to be photographed following the viewpoint, and registered, and the viewpoint photographic face image is collated with the registered presumed face image so that the person of the viewpoint photographic face image can be identified.
