PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity and little fog, showing rapid progress in development, and causing little changes in the performance by fluctuation of the temperature for heat development, and to provide a method for forming an image. SOLUTION: The photosensitive material contains (a) a photosensitive silver halide, (b) a reducible silver salt, (c) a specified phenol bis compound and (d) a compound expressed by general formula (2): A-(C(V<SP>20</SP>)=X)<SB>n</SB>-A' on a supporting body. In formula (2), X represents a structure of C(V<SP>21</SP>)- or nitrogen atom, each of V<SP>20</SP>and V<SP>21</SP>represents hydrogen atom or a substituent or V<SP>20</SP>and V<SP>21</SP>may be linked with each other to form a ring, each of A and A' represents hydrogen atom or a substituent, however, at least one of A and A' represents OH, OR, NH<SB>2</SB>, NHR or NRR', each of R and R' independently represents a substituent, A and A' may be linked with each other to form a ring, and n is an integer from 0 to 5.
