PURPOSE: An absolute encoder is provided to precisely measure an R.P.M of a main shaft by using R.P.M of first and second disc shafts and the number of pulses generated by a code sequence formed on surfaces of the first and second disc shafts. CONSTITUTION: An absolute encoder includes a main shaft(10), a first gear assembly, and a second gear assembly. The first gear assembly rotates a first disc shaft(20) having a code sequence of a plurality of tracks at a first R.P.M depending on an R.P.M of the main shaft(10). The second gear assembly rotates a second disc shaft(40) having a code sequence of a plurality of tracks at a second R.P.M depending on the R.P.M of the main shaft(10). The tracks form a measuring scale. An R.P.M of the main shaft(10) is detected based on the first and second R.P.M and the number of pulses generated by a code sequence formed on surfaces of the first and second disc shafts(20,40).
