Process for roughening road topping comprises partially removing the road topping using rotating roughening tools (1a-d) attached to a mobile roughening machine. The roughening tools move horizontally over the topping surface and rotate about a vertical axis a distance away from the tool axis. The vertical height can be adjusted to the topping surface. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above process. Preferred Features: The roughening tool performs additional pulsating and/or vibrating vertical and/or horizontal movements.
