Compounds represented by the following general formula (I); a process for producing a compound (substance F-1490) of the general formula (I), wherein X represents -O- and R represents hydroxy, by using a microorganism belonging to the genus Cunninghamella; a Cunninghamella sp. F-1490 strain (FERM BP-8287) capable of producing the substance F-1490; and osteoclast differentiation inhibitors comprising the compounds represented by the general formula (I) as the active ingredient: (I) wherein X represents -O- or -CH2-; R represents hydroxy or hydrogen in the cases where X is -O- or -CH2- respectively.
