An ink jet recording sheet comprising a gas permeable support and, superimposed thereon, a highly glossy cast coating recording layer comprising a pigment and a binder constituted mainly of polyvinyl alcohol, characterized in that the pigment is composed of a mixture of alumina (A) and silica of 100 to 500 nm average particle diameter (B) in a A : B weight ratio of 95 : 5 to 50 : 50. The silica (B) is preferably a cationized silica, and the alumina (A) is preferably gamma-alumina. These enable obtaining not only gloss comparable to that of a silver salt photograph but also excellent ink absorptivity and printing density.
