A socket prosthesis assembly and installation procedure are provided. The prosthesis is assembled from two or more components that are mounted together in the joint capsule. Each component is characterized in having a geometrical form such as to enable it to be installed in the joint via a lateral portal made in the long bone of the joint. In this manner, a relatively large socket prosthesis may be provided through a relatively small opening, minimizing trauma to the patient.
