BALLOON CATHETER FOR TENTATIVE VASO-OCCLUSION

It is intended to provide a balloon catheter for tentatively occluding a vessel which can serve as a guide wire, has favorable handling properties so as to match complicatedly curled and branched vessels such as coronary artery and brain vessels, can be inserted into a vessel following up a guide wire, and can be inserted to a sufficient depth to attain a peripheral site of a vessel. The above-described balloon catheter has a balloon made of a highly elongating material having a break elongation of 300% to 1100%, a shaft having an outer diameter of from 0.014 in. to 0.018 in. and being made of a highly elastic material having a modulus of elasticity of 1 GPa or above, and a lumen for following up a guide wire at the tip of the catheter.
