An additive which enhances the antiseptic effect of a cationic antiseptic in eye drops containing a compound having a chemical structure represented by the following general formula (I). Incorporating a basic amine compound into eye drops containing the compound having a chemical structure represented by the general formula (I) and a cationic antiseptic remarkably enhances the antiseptic effect on the eye drops. In the general formula (I), R1 is any of the following structural formulae (Ia), (Ib), (Ic), (Id), (Ie), and (If).
