An information providing system, firstly, receives and stores a content and a content code corresponding to the content by using a broadcast wave transmitted from a broadcast station and the Internet. The content may be, for example, an article of a newspaper. The content code is a code uniquely assigned to the content. On the other hand, a paper-shaped display medium having a similar content code recorded is sold or distributed for free to a user. When the user sets the paper-shaped display medium on a domestic broadcast receiver or the like, code reading means reads the content code recorded on the paper-shaped display medium. A content corresponding to the content code which has been read is acquired from the recording medium and displayed on the paper-shaped display medium.
