One of the two adjoining narrow sides of the panel (1) next to the end softwood strip (5) is provided with a groove (9) and the other side is provided with a tongue (12), the tongue and groove both being formed from the ends of connecting segments (13) made from softwood. These segments lie adjacent to each other and have a length section extending between the cover layer (2) and bottom layer in the panel. The segments slant at an angle relative to the hardwood segments (3) forming the cover layer. The cover layer comprises adjoining hardwood segments, the middle layer comprises softwood strips extending at right angles to the hardwood segments and the bottom layer is provided with grooves on two adjoining narrow sides (7, 8) of the panel and with tongues on the other two adjoining sides (10).
