An optical recording medium D has a spiral track T, and the track T has a plurality of first and second areas Ta and Tb of which at least either of the width and the depth is different. First areas Ta form an overlap part 11 where the starting part and the other part are located on adjacent tracks respectively and overlap with each other. Second areas Tb also form an overlap part 12 having a similar structure thereto. A beam spot can easily be circulated on the same track of the optical recording medium D in an idling mode.
