A projection screen to provide clear and sharp image without being affected by the brightness of a projection environment, and a manufacturing method thereof. The projection screen (1) projects the light from a light source (11) to display an image, and includes an optical thin film (3) consisting of a dielectric multi-layered film having a high reflection characteristic to the light of a particular wavelength band and with a high transmission characteristic to the light of a visible wavelength band at least excluding the particular wavelength band. The optical thin film (3) is characterized in that, the film thickness of each dielectric multi-layered film is designed by the simulation based on a matrix method. In the projection screen, the optical thin film (3) plays a role as a so-called band filter. That is, the optical thin film (3) functions as a wavelength band filter having the light separating effect by reflecting the light of the particular wavelength band and substantially transmitting the light of the wavelength other than the particular wavelength.
