The present invention relates to a biomarker for the efficacy of appetite suppressant drugs given to humans or other mammals for the treatment of obesity. It further relates to a novel method of determining the efficacy of a test compound given to a subject for the treatment of obesity, wherein the test compound is an appetite suppressant which does not stimulate the releas e of serotonin. It also relates to a method for following the progress of a therapeutic regime designed to alleviate obesity and to a method for determining the appropriate dosage of an appetite suppressant given to a subject for the treatment of obesity.
