The invention relates to a method of producing a diploid zygote from a triploid zygote. The inventive method comprises the following steps: (i) providing a tripronucleate zygote, (ii) identifying the position of the three pronuclei in relation to the second polar body, and (iii) removing the pronuclei that are furthest from the second polar body in order to produce a diploid zygote. The diploid zygote can be grown in order to form a blastocyte. The embryonic parent cells can be grown from the blastocytes obtained from the recovered diploid heteroparental zygotes. The cells from the diploid zygote can also be induced in order to differentiate them into differentiated cells.
