A description interpreter (101) identifies the format (Exif, JFIF, and so on) of image data included in a content received from a host unit (10). An image data acquisition unit (103) acquires image data, which is linked to the content, from a printing content buffer (102) or an external database (119). An image identification unit (104) identifies the type of a received image file and notifies an image decompression unit (105) of the result. The image decompression unit (105) decompresses compressed image data. An image processing determination unit (106) determines a parameter for image processing by an image processor (107). A rendering unit (108) converts the image data into data represented by the CMYK color space before printing, and a printing unit (109) prints the image data.
