PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insect pest controlling material layable within a wide range simply by placing thereof on the ground without embedding in the ground during application, controlling approaching termites by bringing the termites into contact with an insecticidal chemical or feeding the termites with the insecticidal chemical as opposed to an insect controlling technique for keeping away the unpleasant insect pests such as the termites to be the control objects, advantageous to cost and favorably usable even for the environment and humans by reducing the amount of the insecticidal chemical used. SOLUTION: The insect controlling material is obtained as follows. A chemical-containing region 2 containing the insecticidal chemical 4 having non-repellent actions on the unpleasant insect pests and a chemical-free region 3 free of the insecticidal chemical are alternately arranged in the longitudinal direction on a long substrate 1 laid on the ground.
