Scattered light is measured, compensating intensity losses of the laser (2) beam. A neutral wedge filter (8) (or step-wedge filter) is inserted in front of the imaging unit (7), which is switched to a higher sensitivity level. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding apparatus.
