An intermediate sheet cam (4) shape is obtained by cutting and forming with pre-formed inner and outer faces as taken by the punch (1) contoured to create the cam faces. As the top tool descends so the gude ring (3) takes the outer cam face and the backholder (5) guide is taken by the inner face. A ring tooth (8) on the backholder (5) face penetrates the upper cam surface with sufficient force to produce normal stress. As the upper tool descends further so the stretcher ring (2) reduces the thickness of the outer cam face. The centering ring (7) following the stretcher is faced above in runoff material.
