The file cover (1) producing process involves fitting a rigid spine (2) and rigid covers (3, 4). these are formed from metal plates (5, 6, 7) spaced out from a flexible core layer (8) to leave hinges (11, 12). The metal plates are cut out first and then bonded to the core layer. The metal plates and/or the core layer may have glue applied for subsequent pressing together of the components.
