<p>An inhibitor (A) of cortisol synthesis is used: (a) to treat type II diabetes mellitus; and (b) to counteract other risk factors that are part of the metabolic syndrome (also known as the deadly quartet, syndrome X or insulin resistance syndrome). (A) is ketoconazole (I; already well known as an antimycotic) or its derivs. with comparable activity.
